A noble schedule. You are truly a good person.
Only in ancient Egypt people figured out the man has a role in the conception of a baby but they didn’t quite figure out HOW it works yet. But they associated semen with life so jerking off into the river became symbolic of giving life and fertile power to the river. Curiously, in Sumerian culture the word for semen and water was one and the same.
Thank you for providing a sensible and redeeming explanation
Source for the Egypt part is Kronik der Frauen (Chronicle of Women) by Bodo Hareberg Verlag published circa 1990.
Ancient Egypt did one thing strangely but really well. Regardless of whether you believed the world was born from a giant cow or a praeternal ocean, Egyptian priests said it’s one and the same thing, just interpreted differently. They would have artists depict mashed up beliefs and give them a free hand in doing it. So they would (don’t remember the exact order) have a giant snake come from the praeternal ocean, who would then lay an egg, which would create the praeternal island (represented by pyramids) on which a giant cow would be born from this egg, and this cow would give birth to gods, etc.
This is the sole reason why Osiris could be his own grandfather. One myth said he was the grandkid, others that he was the grandfather so priests went “both are true”. No reason to fight over religion, everyone is happy.
This bit is based on the book by Andrzej Niwiński “Mity isymbole religijne starożytnego Egiptu”. (Mythscand religious symbols of ancient Egypt). Book is from 1984 so some things might be outdated but I think the gist is the same.
Thank you for reading and acknowledging my response.
Forgot one thing. So they newly discovered the man has some part in making a baby. But before that women were praised as goddesses because they thought the vagina is the gate of life, literally a PORTAL, where babies magically spawn and come from. That was the basis for the matriarchy. So when they found out men are needed to fertilize women they couldn’t just topple matriarchy. Instead they figured out that the queen will have a king so that the magic energy of life will be transferred to the pharaoh through the queen. Through sex with her and her general presence. Now, the pharaoh is granted the magic power of life through the queen. What does he do? Well, jack off into the sacred river off course! This also explains why only the pharaoh and not a priest or the pharaoh’s son could do it.
